Through the foods, blessings, questions, songs, and four cups of the Seder, the service invites the church to enter Israel’s story of slavery, judgment, deliverance, and covenant. Passover is not treated as an empty ritual but as embodied remembrance of God’s saving character. The afikomen—the final matzah—becomes a sign of Jesus’ body given for Jew and Gentile in one new covenant people. The third cup, traditionally called the cup of redemption, recalls the lamb’s blood in Egypt and Jesus’ declaration that the cup is the new covenant in his blood, poured out for all who believe. Elijah’s place at the table points toward prophetic restoration and John the Baptist’s announcement of the Lamb of God. The fourth cup is described as the cup of the bride: not merely an ending, but longing for the Spirit and bride to say, “Come,” in unity and love.
