Manushyanu Oru Aamukham (A Preface to Man) is a Malayalam novel by Subhash Chandran, one of the most acclaimed contemporary writers in Kerala. The novel, which was first serialized in Mathrubhumi Weekly in 2009 and published as a book by DC Books in 2010, has won several prestigious awards, including the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, the Odakkuzhal Award, the Vayalar Award, and the FOKANA Award. The novel is set in Thachanakkara, a fictitious village in central Kerala, and revolves around the life of Jithendran, a young man who belongs to a Nair tharavadu (joint family) called Ayyattumbilly. The novel traces Jithendran's journey from his childhood to his adulthood, as he struggles to find his identity and purpose in a changing world. The novel also narrates the stories of Jithendran's ancestors, such as his grandfather Govindan and his great-grandfather Narapilly, who had lived through different historical periods and faced various challenges and dilemmas. The novel explores the themes of dharma (duty), artha (wealth), kama (desire), and moksha (liberation), which are considered as the four purusharthas (aims of human life) in Hindu philosophy.
