According to Amnesty International, thousand of asylum-seeking Afghans in Europe are being deported during a time of record high number of civilian casualties in Afghanistan. As a result, Afghan refugees who have converted to Christianity while living in Europe are being sent home to a country where they are at serious risk of torture, kidnapping, death, and other human rights abuses. In 2016, a reported 11,418 people were killed or injured in Afghanistan. Most attacks on civilians were carried out by armed groups such as the Taliban and ISIS. In the first half of this year, 5,243 civilian casualties were documented. By law, the Afghan government considers conversion from Islam an apostasy and can punish Christian converts with the death penalty.
Please pray for:
* God’s divine protection, shelter and comfort for the asylum seekers who are being deported to this dangerous part of the world.
* God to grant the government leaders godly wisdom and compassion for these vulnerable individuals and families.
* The continued strength of the believers’ faith, that their witness in the face of oppression would lead many Afghans to a saving knowledge of Christ Jesus.
